Jahrhundert.

English: Berlin, Nikolaikirche, burial chambers, mummy

Recording: Illus Kümmell, January 25, 1951. Non-ferrous-metal thieves of corpses. In the Nicolaikirche, a historic building in old Berlin, there are many artistically significant grave chapels and epitaphs. In mid-January 1951 it was discovered that non-ferrous-metal thieves had been up to mischief in the burial chambers and plundered numerous coffins. Zinc coffins, jewelry, etc. were stolen. These are mostly councilors and merchants from the 16th century who are buried here.

Shown here: A mummified corpse that was carelessly placed upright in its coffin by the thieves.
