For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme. Zentralbild-Biscan Ra-Wi. 8.2.1954 Die Elbe ist zugefroren Nur selten friert der drittgrößte Strom Deutschlands zu. Aber das kalte Winterwetter, das seit Ende Januar in Europa herrscht, brachte auch die Elbe zum Stehen. Damit fällt ein für die Versorgung unserer Bevölkerung sehr wichtiger Verkehrsweg aus. Eine Folge davon ist, daß die Reichsbahn überlastet wird. Doch durch rechtzeitig durchgeführte Maßnahmen konnte die gesamte Versorgung mit Lebensmitteln und Kohle gesichert werden. Dagegen melden Presse und Rundfunk, daß in den westlichen Ländern mehrere Menschenopfer durch die anhaltende Kälte zu beklagen sind. Von den zuständigen Behörden wird zur Zeit alles vorbereitet um bei gelinderen Temperaturen die Schiffahrtswege wieder befahrbar zu machen. UBz, Deutsche und tschechoslowakische Schiffer, die im Zollhafen von Magdeburg Winterquartier bezogen haben, halten in gemeinsamer Arbeit um ihre Schiffe einen eisfreien Streifen. |
