For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Chemnitz, Straße der Nationen Zentralbild Gahlbeck 17.4.1965 tre-Du. Karl-Marx-Stadt 1965. Die Metropole des Maschinenbaus ist neu erstanden. Aus den Trümmern des Jahres 1945 wächst eine schöne sozialistische Grossstadt heran. In den Jahren von 1949 bis 1964 wurden 20.000 Wohnungen neu oder ausgebaut. 450 Millionen MDN stell der Staat für diese Bauten zu Verfügung. Karl-Marx-Stadt besitzt heute 41 poliklinische Einrichtungen, 12 Klub- und Kulturhäuser, 26 Kinderkrippen, 86 Kindergärten und 60 allgemeinbildende Oberschulen. Die Stadt ist zu einem weltoffenen Zentrum des Werkzeugmaschinen-, des Textilmaschinen- und des Büromaschinenbaues geworden. Sie exportiert ihre Erzeugnisse in 90 Länder der Erde.
