For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme. ADN-ZB Ludwig 17.5.74 Bez. Erfurt: Vorbereitung Arbeiterfestspiele Arnstadt, mit 1 270 Jahren der älteste Ort der DDR, ist Festspielort der diesjährigen Arbeiterfestspiele im Bezirk Erfurt. Die Stadt ist reich an Zeugen der Vergangenheit. Das Riedtor (Foto) gehört zu den alten Befestigungsanlagen und erwiest sich heute als Engpaß für die Fernverkehrsstraße Nr. 4, die in den Thüringer Wald führt. - Die Kreisstadt am Nordrand des Thüringer Waldes zählt heute ca 30.000 Einwohner. Ihre Industrieerzeugnisse - fernmeldetechnische Anlagen aus dem RFT Fernmeldewerk und Chemieanlagen aus dem Chemieanlagenbau Erfurt-Rudisleben - sind durch die ökonomische Integration in den sozialistischen Ländern bekannt und geschätzt.
