For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme. ADN-Zentralbild, 2.1.1980 (2 Motive) Berlin: Eine Kirche mitten im Großstadtzentrum. Harmonisch ordnet sich die Berliner Marienkirche in das Gesamtbild des neugestalteten Stadtzentrums rings um den Alexanderplatz ein. Der sakrale Bau ist nicht nur ein historisches Baudenkmal, sondern zugleich eine Stätte regen kirchlichen Lebens der Berliner Christen. Aber auch als Ort intensiver Kirchenmusikpflege nimmt die Marienkirche einen bedeutenden Platz im Musikleben der DDR-Hauptstadt ein.- Die dreischiffige gotische Hallenkirche (Grundsteinlegung zwischen 1270 und 1280), die ihr endgültiges Gepräge erst im ausgehenden 14. Jahrhundert erhielt, wurde im Zweiten Weltkrieg stark zerstört. Mitte der 60er Jahre wurde sie mit einem Kostenaufwand von 1,6 Millionen Mark restauriert. |
