Summary[edit]

Description
English: Manor-house of a manorial estate, called Schloß Burgk. Part of a compound of workshops, stables, collieries and peasants´ cottages. Foundations about 1507. Production of vitriol and alum 1558–1581. Large-scale coal-mining since 1780, co-ordinated with acquired iron-hammers and rolling-mills since 1827. First gas-lamp in the manor house in 1828. Dwelling in the house discontinued in 1878, coal-mining ceased in 1930. The agricultural use remained, with importance after 1945. 1946 state-ownership. The manor–house was conveyed to the city of Freital, which installed a museum focussing upon coal-mining, industrialization and five important collections of paintings.
