Nederlands: Repronegatief. Het was met de herten die in Zuidwest-Celebes bejaagd werden vreemd gesteld. Hun wetenschappelijke naam (Cervus timorensis) doet ten onrechte vermoeden dat ze van Timor kwamen. Ze hadden die naam gekregen, omdat de eerste wetenschappelijke beschrijving en naamgeving een exemplaar van Timor gold. Daar was het echter ooit van Java ingevoerd. Het wordt dan ook terecht veelal Java hert genoemd of Rusa hert naar de inheemse naam van het dier op Java (rusa). Ook op Celebes is het vrijwel zeker ooit van Java ingevoerd. Ook de jacht op deze herten, niet zelden het privilege van een vorstelijke familie of van de adel, is mogelijk van Java geïntroduceerd. (P. Boomgaard, 2001). Hertenjagers op Celebes met honden |
