| Description |
Nederlands: Negatief. Midden in de Bandazee ligt een groep minuscule eilandjes, de Banda Eilanden. Banda is eeuwenlang de enige plaats geweest waar de muskaatnoten groeiden. Dat werd de bevolking van Banda in 1621 noodlottig toen de VOC het eiland 'tuchtigde' voor wat de VOC beschouwde als contractbreuk. Het grootste deel van de oorspronkelijke bevolking kwam toen om of werd verbannen De grond werd opgedeeld in perken en de mensen die hier notenbomen gingen kweken, vaak Nederlanders, noemde men perkeniers. Zij gebruikten slaven voor de nootmuskaatteelt. Op de foto de staatsievaartuigen (belang) bij het jubileum van Koningin Wilhelmina in 1923, waarbij de Assistent-Resident de vlag uitreikt. (P.
