Description
Nederlands: Pop. Beschilderd beeld van een parasoldrager van de patih (zie 8-14). De parasol gold als een waardigheidsteken in de inheemse bestuurshierarchie. Dit beeld vormt onderdeel van een serie poppen, voorstellende de verschillende rangen van de inheemse bestuurspiramide op Java (de pangreh praja). Op Java bestond ten tijde van de koloniale overheersing een vorm van indirect bestuur. Naast het Europese bestuurscorps (het Binnenlands Bestuur) regeerde een inheems bestuurspiramide, die bestond uit leden van de Javaanse aristocratie. Zij fungeerde als schakel tussen de inheemse bevolking en het koloniaal bestuur. De armen bij de ellebogen en schouders beweegbaar.. Houten pop, een parasoldrager voorstellend
