Nederlands: Repronegatief. De overgrote meerderheid van de Indonesische vaartuigen was aan het einde van de koloniale periode (en nog steeds) van hout. Kleine vaartuigen werden op een groot aantal plaatsen gebouwd, voor de wat grotere had men gespecialiseerde werven nodig. De belangrijkste bouwers van inheemse scheepstypes van enige omvang, waren de Makassaren en Boeginezen. Dat geldt in feite nog steeds. Hun schepen trof men in de hele Archipel aan. Daarnaast waren (en zijn) Boeginezen en Makassaren ook belangrijk als reders en als handelaren, overigens twee functies die niet noodzakelijkerwijs samengaan. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
