Português: Zé Pedro começou a trabalhar ainda criança, ajudando o pai na lida da roça e animais. Aos 13, saiu de Cunha SP, sua cidade natal, para ser mais um trabalhador braçal no calçamento de ruas em Paraty RJ, onde também se ocupou junto com o pai numa fazenda.
No presente, seu Zé luta para manter as tradições na Fazenda da Caixa no Núcleo Quilombola em Picinguaba. Tanto esforço porque a história da Picinguaba é também a história de sua família. Aos 18 anos, ele se casou com Maria Nadir, com quem vive até os dias atuais. O descendente de angolanos teve 14 filhos, 50 netos, 30 bisnetos e um tataraneto. Hoje ele vive na Fazenda da Caixa em Picinguaba, município de Ubatuba SP, onde praticamente tomou a frente e cuida de uma casa de farinha que já funcionou como um engenho de cana de açúcar no início da colonização do país e hoje é atração turística em Ubatuba. O Mestre quilombola Zé Pedro, neto de escravos, africanos de Angola, recebe os visitantes sempre com muita paciência, e adora contar as histórias que lá viveu. Seu nome verdadeiro é José Vieira, nasceu em Cunha – SP em 30/11/1938, e é conhecido como José Pedro por causa de seu pai que se chamava Pedro José Vieira, este que já conhecia o trabalho em Casa de Farinha, Moinho de Fubá, Alambique e Olaria e que passou seus conhecimentos para o “Seu” Zé Pedro.
