| Description |
Deutsch: 1157 wird "Cadolzburg" erstmals urkundlich greifbar. In der Mitte des 13. Jahrhunderts gelangte das Gebiet rund um Cadolzburg in den Besitz der Burggrafen von Nürnberg aus dem Hause Hohenzollern. Jene nannten sich im Mittelalter noch kurz Zollern. Seit das ursprünglich schwäbische Geschlecht 1191/92 vom Kaiser zu Burggrafen von Nürnberg ernannt wurde, lag ihr Herrschaftsschwerpunkt in Franken.
Nachdem es im 14. Jahrhundert zu immer stärkeren Konfrontationen mit der Bürgerschaft der Nürnberger Reichsstadt kam, verlegten die Zollern ihren Herrschaftsschwerpunkt auf die nahe gelegene Cadolzburg. Von hier aus ernannte König Sigismund Burggraf Friedrich VI. 1415 zum Kurfürsten der Mark Brandenburg. Seither zählten die Zollern zu den sieben Königswählern und hatten eine herausgehobene Stellung im Alten Reich inne, die in der Konsequenz nicht zuletzt dazu führte, dass sie 1701 zu Königen in Preußen und 1871 zu Kaisern des Deutschen Reichs aufstiegen. So kommt es, dass im späten Mittelalter eine ganze Weile lang Berlin von Cadolzburg und Ansbach aus regiert wurde.
