Description

Shortly past noon on the Friday before the Labor Day weekend, this brush fire in Oak Hill caused I-15, the main artery between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, to be blocked. With very few alternate routes in the area, traffic was brought to a virtual standstill.

I took this photo on CA-138 east of I-15 as I detoured around the area on my way to Las Vegas. The curves of this area are not advised for big rigs, but as seen here, tractor-trailers are being forced to navigate the curves as a result of the closure of the I-15. The snarled traffic and the detour added three extra hours to my drive.

The fire was extinguished by Sunday the 4th. In its wake, several homes in Oak Hill had been destroyed.
