| Description | This is an image of a high Arctic pond, taken on a scientific expedition in 2006 at Cape Herschel on Ellesmere Island in northeastern Canada. Despite being filled with water for at least several thousand years, many of these ponds have desiccated since 1982, probably due to global warming.
