Description
Español: Aunque se pudiera pensar que es un cangrejo muerto, es probable, que en realidad sea el exoesqueleto de un cangrejo del género Grapsus producto de su crecimiento corporal; porque los cangrejos mudan. Incluso, posiblemente, de la especie Grapsus grapsus.

La especie Grapsus grapsus es un gran depredador de las orillas rocosas que presenta hábitos carnívoros y se alimenta en períodos de marea baja. Su dieta está basada en crustáceos de la infraclase Cirripedia, por ejemplo los percebes, y moluscos de la familia Mytilidae, por ejemplo los mejillones; entre otros invertebrados. También se alimenta de algas filamentosas, es carroñero y muestra comportamiento de canibalismo; que puede ocurrir durante la cópula.

La especie se caracteriza por su agilidad al moverse o al saltar de roca a roca. Se trasladan de una roca a otra realizando saltos de diferente distancia, desde unos pocos centímetros hasta saltos de aproximadamente un metro.

El cangrejo Grapsus grapsus presenta autotomía (capacidad voluntaria de perder un apéndice), y en general, es un mecanismo frecuentemente utilizado como medio de escape de un depredador.
