| Description |
English: Pyrenean sedge is fairly common in the Line Creek Plateau but perhaps most abundant at the upper elevations including around the Beartooth Basin Summer Ski Area. The male flowers are few, located at the distal tip, and many spikes show no evidence of producing male flowers (distally located or otherwise). The narrow leaves and tightly bunched growth form readily distinguish this sedge from the Carex scirpoidea (which has distinctly wider leaf blades, about 2 mm. Populations at this locality and time were at anthesis or just after and so the perigynia had not yet attained their characteristic spreading to reflexed orientation (similar in this regard to Carex nigricans). |
