Description
English: Marchese Carlo Ginori (1702 - 1757), Italian politician (Tuscany) and founder of the Doccia porcelain factory near Florence jointley pioneered (along with Meissen) the development of European porcelain in the mid-Eighteenth century. Ginori porcelain was collected by Medicis and most of the nobility of Europe. Napoleon's wife, Marie Louise of Austria ordered an enourmous service that survives to this day. History dates said the passion for oriental pottery in the 16th century led the Medici to found the first European porcelain factory in Florence, this short lived venture flowered again in 1737 with the Ginori factory at Doccia. During the fifteen century the Emperor Maximillian honored a GINORI with the title of COUNT OF PALATINE and several members of this illustrious Florentine dynasty reaped the political and economic benefits of directing the mint. By the sixteen century, the GINORI influence permeated many aspects of life in Florence, with Tommaso an oficial in the wool guild. Leonardo a patron of such artists as Andrea del Sarto, and Giovanbattista a member of the Senate and the Accademia Platonica. The documents in the present collection are: 1-1521 in the hand of Tommaso Ginori, to Simeone Ginori, concerning payment of rent, with Simeone's autograf receipt. 2-1529 in the hand of Francesco Ginori, recording payment of rent by Gio vantista Ginori. 3-1532 in the hand of Leonardo Ginori, recording a debt to Giovantista Ginori. 4-1588 Autograph document signed by the Abbess of Santa Apollonia.
