Español: El castillo de Santa Cruz fue mandado construir por el capitán general Diego das Mariñas en el año 1594. El puerto coruñés estaba bien defendido por los de San Antón y San Diego, pero en el año 1589 la Armada inglesa, mandada por Francis Drake, pudo llegar tranquilamente hasta el fondo de la bahía y desembarcar en Oza para iniciar el asalto de La Coruña. Esto puso en claro la necesidad de completar la defensa de la bahía y de construir una nueva fortaleza en la isla de Santa Cruz. |
