Description
Français : Le 8 août 1956, le bois du Cazier à Marcinelle est le théâtre de la plus importante catastrophe minière en Belgique causée par un incendie, avec 262 victimes (dont 136 Italiens, 95 Belges, 8 Polonais, 6 Grecs, 5 Allemands, 3 Hongrois, 3 Algériens, 2 Français, 1 Anglais, 1 Néerlandais, 1 Russe et 1 Ukrainien) sur les 274 hommes présents dans la mine. 22 des victimes italiennes étaient originaires d'un même village des Abruzzes. À cette époque, 47.000 Italiens travaillent dans les mines de Belgique, constituant à eux seuls plus de 30% des mineurs du pays et plus de 50% de ceux de la région de Charleroi.
