Locality: Jalgaon District, Maharashtra, India (Locality at mindat.org)
Size: miniature, 5.5 x 3.5 x 3.3 cm
Pentagonite on Cavansite (both dimorphs on one specimen!)
To those who exclaim " Holy S**&&*%" when they see these pics, the reason it is so seemingly pricey is self-explanatory. This piece is a true mineralogical oddity featuring both dimorphs of this chemistry on the same specimen. My eyes popped out of my head when i saw it, as it is only the second such really fine example of this combination I have seen (from the same pocket, actually, though the first one was brought to me several months before the show). I was told, and had long thought, that the much rarer pentagonite occurs under quite different conditions from cavansite, so that they never form together in the same vug. Certainly, I have never SEEN them occur together on the same specimen. Well, these not only formed in the same vug but literally on top of each other, and more than that seemingly INTERGROWN ?!?!?! I think it is both an aesthetically choice and scientifically important specimen.
