Description
Português: O Cemitério Senhor Bom Jesus da Redenção, mais conhecido como Cemitério de Santo Amaro, é o maior cemitério do Recife, Pernambuco, Brasil. Com projeto do engenheiro José Mamede Alves Ferreira, teve suas obras iniciadas no governo de Francisco do Rego Barros. Foi inaugurado em 1 de março de 1851, tendo se destinado, inicialmente, ao sepultamento de pessoas vitimadas pelo surto de febre amarela, que não podiam ser sepultadas em igrejas, como era o costume da época. Sua arquitetura é radial, com túmulos distribuídos ao longo de ruas que partem de um ponto central. É a maior exposição de arte ao ar livre de Pernambuco, com centenas de mausoléus de grande porte
English: The Senhor Bom Jesus da Redenção Cemetery, better known as Santo Amaro Cemetery, is the largest cemetery in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. With a project by engineer José Mamede Alves Ferreira, his works began under the government of Francisco do Rego Barros. It was inaugurated on March 1, 1851, and was initially intended for the burial of people victimized by the outbreak of yellow fever, who could not be buried in churches, as was the custom at the time. Its architecture is radial, with tombs distributed along streets that start from a central point. It is the largest outdoor art exhibition in Pernambuco, with hundreds of large mausoleums.
