Title
Charabanc
Description

The vehicle shares the same number plate (01110) as the charabanc shown in GN08214 (first registered in 1918), but it appears to be an earlier vehicle. It has solid rubber tyres and a higher ground clearance. The date imprinted on the image is 06/08/1920, but the vehicle is more likely to be a 1910 model, or earlier. The people's clothing suggests, however, that the date given is correct.

A charabanc was a large open-topped bus designed for sightseeing and day trips. The term comes from the French, 'char-a-bancs', meaning a 'carriage with benches'.
