Summary[edit]

Description
English: Built in 1869-1870, this Second Empire-style mansion was designed by George M. Allison for Charles B. Sternberg, whom owned a grain elevator, and died before the house was completed. The house features a convexly curved mansard roof, gabled wall dormers, bracketed eaves, two two-story bay windows with cornices on each level flanking the main entrance, a red brick exterior, quoins, a front porch with grouped corinthian pilasters and columns and a cast iron railing above in front of two arched window openings with decorative trim surrounds, one-over-one windows, two-story bay windows on the north and south facade, a two-story oriel window on the south facade, and a one-and-a-half-story rear service wing. The house presently serves as The Mansion on Delaware Avenue, a hotel and event venue, and is a contributing structure in the Allentown Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
