Text[edit]
Funeral of Charles F. Conly. Arrangements for Interment of the Well-Known Photographer. Mr. Charles F. Conly, whose death occurred yesterday at his rooms in Hotel Clyde. Isabella street, was one of the best known photographers in the country. Mr. Conly was 46 years and 10 months of age, having been born in the town of Milford. this State, where he received his education in the public schools. When at about the age of 20 years be came to Boston looking for a job. Twas on a hot midsummer's day that he strolled up and down Washington street. He had called at several places and asked for work. He had found nothing, and was almost ready to start back to his home when in front of Warrens photographic establishment he read the sign, "boy wanted". Up two flights of stairs he climbed, and as he happened to be the first applicant he was put to work at a salary most surprisingly small. In a little over 10 years after he had entered Mr. Warrens employ as office boy he succeeded that gentleman in the business, he becoming sole proprietor of the establishment. In his early life Mr. Conly was for a short time engaged in the theatrical profession, and this gave him an extensive acquaintance with those in the business. Thus it was that he gradually grew to be the favorite of the actors visiting Boston and thus it was that he made this class of work a specialty. Soon after coming to Boston Mr. Conly married Miss Jane A. Harris of his native town. The deceased was a prominent secret society man. He being a Mason of high degree, an Elk, Odd Fellow, and member of the Royal Arcanum. The funeral is to be held tomorrow at 12:30 o'clock from the church of the Good Shepherd on Cortes street. Interment will be in the family lot at Milford.
