| Description |
English: The Charles and Virginia Clark House, 2541 Bowen Road, Elma, New York, April 2023. The work of Frank Lloyd Wright is the obvious influence in the aesthetic of this striking Midcentury Modern home built in 1968 on an ample three-acre wooded lot: note the unmistakable horizontal orientation and bottom-heavy massing, the understated entrance hidden within a terrace underneath a cantilevered roof, and the interesting placement of the building on a hillside leading down to Pond Brook. As is typical in houses of the style, enormous floor-to-ceiling windows (principally facing the rear, thuis not visible here) afford the interior abundant natural light, solar heating, and an airy openness that's interestingly contrasted by the coziness of the log-burning fireplace in the living room. The garage at right is a sympathetic later addition. |
