Summary[edit]
DescriptionCharnia NT.jpg |
English: Life restoration of Charnia masoni, a frond-like rangeomorph lifeform around 15 cm (6 in) long from the Ediacaran biota. The relationship of rangeomorphs like Charnia to animals and other kingdoms of life is unclear; one proposed grouping puts them in their own animal phylum Petalonamae. Charnia was first discovered in England and was the first Precambrian fossil to be recognized as such; it has also been found in Australia, Russia, and Newfoundland. The sediments in which it is found indicate that it lived in a deep-sea environment. |
