Summary[edit]

Description
English: Photo taken at the Troms Forsvarsmuseum ("Troms Armed Forces Museum, Troms Defence Museum"), a military history museum in Setermoen in Northern Norway:
  • Uniform for a captain (French:capitaine) in 6e bataillon de chasseurs alpins (6e BCA), a battalion of the Chasseurs Alpins, the elite mountain infantry force of the French Army.
    • Hooded cape, beret (béret de chasseur alpin, tarte/crêpe des Alpes), ceremonial daffodil yellow breastscarf, ice axe (multi-purpose hiking and climbing tool used by mountaineers), mannequin, etc.
    • The chasseurs are easily recognised by their wide beret (when not in battle uniform), adopted as a hunter's headdress in 1891 and named the tarte des Alpes ("pie of the Alps", after a type traditional alpine hat). Note though that this is also worn by other mountain troops, such as the Alpine infantry, cavalry, artillery, and signals except for the 2ème REG engineers who wear the green beret. The badge of the battalion depicts a swallow crossing a hunters horn.
