chevron fracted

Summary[edit]

Description
English: In heraldry, broken (or fracted, rompu, or disjointed) chevrons can be represented artistically and described in blazon in a variety of ways (compare other images in this set).

Arthur Pimbley's 1908 Dictionary of Heraldry constructs an example illustration of a chevron broken like this to illustrate "a chevron fracted"; Mistholme states this form is found in Randle Holme's Fifteenth Century Book of Arms as the arms of Fyndarne (c. 1460).
