Description
Italiano: La Chiesa del Purgatorio, chiamata anche Chiesa di San Laviero o Laverio 
(dal latino Labienus), santo nato ad Acerenza verso la fine del III sec d.C.,

risale al XVIII sec.

Presenta una pianta rettangolare a navata unica con accenni neogotici di fine Ottocento, finestrelle a sesto acuto e altari in marmo policromo recenti. 

All’interno custodisce un olio su tela del XVII sec. di scuola napoletana opera di Filippo Donzelli,  allievo di Aniello Falcone (1600 o 1607 –1665), attribuzione giustificata dal monogramma dell’artista lasciato sul dipinto. L’opera rappresenta il martirio per decapitazione di San Laviero, raffigurato in ginocchio con le mani al petto e con lo sguardo in estasi rivolto verso l’alto, mentre un uomo alla sua destra brandisce una spada nell’atto di levarla sul capo del Santo.

Sullo sfondo sono visibili i profili delle due città in cui il santo viene venerato, la natale Acerenza e Grumento, cittadina dove subì il martirio il 17 novembre del 312 d.C.

Proprio sopra l’accesso, sorretto da balaustre in stile tardo-barocco in una cantoria in legno, si trova un organo del 600, nella parte inferiore della balaustra vi è un’iscrizione in caratteri cirillici.
