Arica's Chinchorro Culture has the oldest mummies in the world, 10,000 years old. They were found for a relatively short time in a site in the central city, corresponding to a late period in the Chinchorro culture. This is about 9,500 years old.

En Arica están las momias más antiguas del mundo, pertenecen a la Cultura Chinchorro con diez mil años de antigüedad. Hace relativamente poco tiempo se encontraron en un sitio en el centro de la ciudad nuevos cuerpos momificados, corresponden a un periodo tardío de la cultura Chinchorro, así que son un poco más "jóvenes", tienen aproximadamente 9.500 años. Estas imágenes son de este lugar que pronto se convertirá en un museo in situ, para mi fue muy sobrecogedor estar ahí. Los chinchorros preparaban esmeradamente a sus muertos para que continuaran el camino hacia otra vida y lo lograron, porque después de diez mil años están presentes...
