Description

(public display, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Cleveland, Ohio, USA)

This attractive object is carved from lapis lazuli, a rare metamorphic rock dominated by a blue feldspathoid mineral called lazurite, (Na,Ca)8(AlSiO4)6(SO4,S,Cl)2 - sodium calcium chloro-sulfo-aluminosilicate-sulfate.
