Description

Choue (Loir-et-Cher)

Ruines de la chapelle du prieuré Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Guériteau (13e siècle).

La chapelle se situe près d'une source aux vertus bienfaisantes, d'où le nom de Guériteau.

Vers 1240, les Bénédictins, après avoir quitté leur prieuré situé dans l'enceinte du château de Mondoubleau, s'installèrent près de Choue. De ces constructions ne subsiste que la chapelle.

La chapelle était déjà en ruine en 1791.


Le prieuré de Guériteau a sa légende, il aurait été construit par un seigneur qui avait malmené un ecclésiastique : Selon Beauvais de Saint-Paul, historien de Mondoubleau, au début du XIIIe siècle, un seigneur de Mondoubleau parti en Terre sainte fut fait prisonnier. Les années passant, sa femme, Clémence des Roches, n'espérait plus son retour et trouvait du réconfort auprès du moine du petit prieuré dédié à Sainte Marie situé dans le domaine du château. Un jour qu'ils s'entretenaient tous deux de religion dans une pièce du donjon, le seigneur réapparut et, croyant que le prieur courtisait sa femme, le précipita par la fenêtre. Quand il comprit sa méprise, il offrit au moine, rescapé de sa chute, de lui construire un prieuré à Guériteau . (Légendes et mystères des régions de France - Par Éloïse MOZZANI)
