Description |
The painting shows the Danish king Frederik III near the small frigate Højenhald that played an important part in the defence of Copenhagen. The Swedish attackers had sent a force of 180 men to take or destroy the vessel, but the defenders held out and repelled the attack. A large part of the Swedish forces went along the coast near the southern part of the city, and the guns of the frigate were able to engage them from the flank, with devastating effect, and after four hours of fighting the Swedes withdrew. |
