Description

"La Poche de Falaise fut le théâtre de la dernière opération de la bataille de Normandie pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Cette opération se déroula du 12 au 21 août 1944 dans une zone située entre les quatre villes normandes de Trun, Argentan, Vimoutiers et Chambois pour s'achever près de Falaise.

7 juin 1944 ; les Alliés bombardent une première fois la commune de Trun afin de ralentir la progression des renforts allemands se dirigeant vers les plages du débarquement..

La 4th Armoured Division du Canada commandée par le Major General George Kitching débutent leur assaut de Trun à 14h. Les véhicules blindés, éclairés par les éléments du 29th Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment “The South Alberta Regiment”, appartiennent au Lake Superior Regiment et au 22nd Armoured Regiment “The Grenadier Guards” de la 4th Armored Brigade tandis que les fantassins engagés proviennent du Lincoln and Welland Regiment de la 10th Infantry Brigade. Les Polonais, qui attaquent à leur tour aux abords nord de Trun, engagent le 24ème régiment de Lanciers
