Literary Chinese and literary Meitei words for elder sister, paper and newspaper (in traditional Chinese characters and traditional Meetei Mayek script)

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Classical Chinese language (Literary Mandarin language) and Classical Meitei language (Literary Manipuri language) words for elder sister, paper and newspaper (in traditional Chinese characters and traditional Meetei Mayek script)

In Chinese, elder sister is called 姐姐 (Jiějiě). In Meitei, elder sister is called ꯆꯦꯆꯦ (cheche) or ꯏꯆꯦ (eeche / iche). In Chinese, paper is called 纸 (zhǐ) and newspaper is called 报纸 (bàozhǐ). In Meitei, paper is called ꯆꯦ (che) and newspaper is called ꯄꯥꯎꯆꯦ (paoche).

Notably, both Chinese and Meitei belong to the Sino-Tibetan language family. Therefore, both the languages descend from their common ancestor, Proto-Sino-Tibetan language, thereby sharing strikingly similar vocabularies, with distinctive styles of pronunciations, spellings, tonality, etc.
