...Lorsqu'au XIII^e et au XIV^e siècle on adopta les voûtes en arcs d'ogive, divisés en un certain nombre de moulures, boudins, filets, cavets, gorges, il arrivait quelquefois que, les sommiers étant posés tout taillés, suivant l'usage, les claveaux ne venaient pas raccorder exactement leurs membres de moulures avec ceux des sommiers, il restait des balèvres...
