| Description |
This Italianate-style house stands on Prospect Avenue in Cleveland's Central neighborhood. Constructed in 1868, the house was built for William McBride, whom got his money from the growth of an oil refinery he was a partner in, and his wife Francis McBride. The house is notable for the two rounded front bays, which give it a remarkably similar appearance to Hatch's Folly on Cincinnati's Dayton Street, which, like this area of Cleveland, was once home to several elite families. In 1902, the house was purchased by philanthropist and manufacturing tycoon Howard Eels, whom used it as a winter home. The house survived the demolition and decline that claimed many other grand houses in the surrounding neighborhood, and has been converted into office space, having its exterior fully restored around the turn of the millennium.
