This relief formed part of a public funerary monument in the church of Santa Maria del Carmine in Milan. The military leader and diplomat humbly kneels in profile before the infant Christ in a naturalistic setting, drawing attention to the Holy Family’s humanity and the deceased man’s reverence. |
