Description
Sets of visual images and accompanying poems had corresponding musical modes that provided a multisensory experience. Listening to music was a courtly pastime, and connoisseurs were aware of the kind of mood that music played in certain keys—known as raga, ragini, and ragaputra—was intended to evoke. Saindhava Raga was meant to elicit in the listener the same feeling that one would have observing a warrior springing into action as he mounts his horse. Saindhava Raga is named after the region of Sindh, now mainly in southwestern Pakistan, and music played or sung in this raga is based on those regional rhythms.
