Description

Cumulus cloud streets form during the autumn in the Martian high latitudes. These cloud streets form as convective rolls. The streets form where rising air from the surface diverges, allowing the meager water content of the atmosphere to condense. Normally, these convective patterns would form a jumbled mass of individual cumulus clouds, but here they are shaped by regional winds that preferentially align these convective regions into more or less straight lines.
