Summary[edit]

Description
English: The pandemic caused by COVID-19 is heavily affecting Northern Italy. The Lombardia, Emilia Romagna and Piemonte regions remain the areas with the largest number of victims in the whole of Europe. This image acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellite on 3 April, shows a cloudless view of the area most affected by the pandemic. For this area, the Copernicus EMS service was activated by the Italian Civil Protection Department for providing maps identifying temporary health facilities (such as triage facilities, field hospitals and so on) as well as gathering places. The Copernicus Emergency Management Service (EMS) mapping component consists of a set of mapping services funded by the European Union.
