Description
A) Coffee grinder w/enclosed grinding mechanism. 5 1/2" x 5 1/4" sq walnut box frame. Base extending in 1/2"W bevel. Top w/ 1/2"W bevel on 4 sides cut w/ 2 parallel grooves. Side walls 3/8" thick. 4 1/2" x 2 1/8" opening in lower front to take drawer. Rounded wooden ears extend from sides of base. Remains of red paint on sides, top & drawer front. 5 screws in top, assorted nails. Inverted dome shaped sheet metal hopper (4 1/2" dia, 1 3/4"H). Vertical grinding cylinder cut w/6 teeth. 11 similar grinders cut in opposition inside grinding barrel. Shaft extends 3 1/4" from cylinder, "x" cut in side. S-shaped iron handle crank w/bevel (1/8"W) along top side edges, sq base. "A.MEVERLL"(?) stamped on top side of crank. Sq nut w/ notched sides screwed to shaft above sq base of crank. Mushroom-shaped walnut handle. 2 triangular iron ears screwed flat to box top. (2 screws ea), taper under hopper rising in triangular arch over barrel opening. 2 lg screws thread down thru hopper, ears & box top on both sides of arch. Shaft sets thru rise in arch. B) Drawer w/pine bot & sides, maple front w/mushroom shaped brass knob. .; Condition: Box top split in half crosswise directly beneath hopper. Hopper slightly dented in on back side. Remains of black paint on hopper & handle crank. Grooved bot edge on left side of drawer missing, bot loose. Vendor suggests Penn. Origin. Copy made CPM.7182.AB
