Summary[edit]

Description Lot 8016-5: Guard of Honor for Secretary Knox. A sailor and a Marine stand guard at the flag-draped, flower-banked coffin of Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox in Mount Pleasant Congregational Church, Washington, D.C. High-ranking civilian officials, Navy, Army, and United Nations leaders attended the funeral service, which was conducted by Dr. Fred S. Buschmeyer, pastor of the church, assisted by Chaplain S. W. Salisbury, USN. The service was held at 2 p.m., May 1, 1944, preceding burial in Arlington National Cemetery. Secretary Knox died on April 28, 1944.U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the Library of Congress. (2016/04/29).
