CHANGI, Singapore (July 15, 2013) – (from left to right) Republic of Singapore Col. Ken Cheong, Commander First Flotilla, Capt. Paul Schlise, Commander Destroyer Squadron 7, Republic of Singapore Col. Vince Tan, commanding officer of the formidable class frigate RSS Intrepid (FSS 69), and Cmdr. Timothy Wilke, commanding officer of the littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS 1) discuss Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Singapore aboard the flight deck of Intrepid . More than 700 Sailors and Marines are participating in CARAT Singapore 2013. U.S. Navy ships participating in CARAT Singapore include the guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62), the littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS 1), Military Sealift Command's Lewis and Clark class dry cargo ship USNS Washington Chambers (T-AKE 11), embarked Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 7 staff, and a U.S. Marine Corps expeditionary force. CARAT is a series of bilateral military exercises between the U.S. Navy and the armed forces of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Timor Leste.
