Summary[edit]

Description
English: The col lies at an altitude of 355 metres in the Albères massif at the eastern end of the Pyrenees mountain chain. The frontier between Spain (Catalonia, to the left) and France (to the right) runs from the Puig de la Calma (718 metres) down to the col, then up to Puig Sallfort (981 metres).

Almost the whole area in the image is underlain by Cambrian and pre-Cambrian metasediments, principally schist. Hercynian granite outcrops along the crest of the Albères, which runs westwards (to the left) from Puig de Sallfort. The Col de Banyuls lies along a fault line which traverses this part of the Albères in a NW-SE direction. See:
