Description

This photgraph shows the new Penang Hill railway (opened 1923) and the station at the bottom of the hill, but also shows the original railway - you can see this at the top of the hill as a 'bent' white line on the right side of the railway. This first railway was famous because it never worked. The line was built but when they tried to move the coaches, the engine was under powered and could not move.
