Description Lot-913-M-O-4: WWII-North African Campaign. The Libyan Advance – Axis Prisoners Reach Cairo. A column of Axis prisoners captured in Libya nearing the massive walls of the Citadel of Cairo built by Saladin, showing the landmark on the Mohamed Ali Mosque above and the Mosque of Sultan Hassan (right). Shown: A large crowd gathered at Cairo main station to witness the arrival in a special train of hundreds of German and Italian prisoners captured in the present Libyan campaign who were searched through the City of the Caliphs to the 11th century citadel, escorted by Scottish troops and Egyptian mounted police.
