Nov. 28, 2017; FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D and center Director Jeffrey E. Shuren, M.D tour labs at the agency's Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) in Silver Spring, MD. Dr. Anant Agrawal describes the use of Opical Coherence Tomography to Commissioner Gottlieb, an imaging technology that has gained widespread clinical use in ophthalmology, owing to its ability to resolve retinal layers and help diagnose eye diseases. OSEL has developed a simulation of the retina that precisely models the thickness and reflectance of 12 retinal layers spanning only 0.3 mm. OSEL has also developed models of the optic nerve which have been used to help assess the capability of imaging devices to detect glaucoma.
