Summary
[edit]DescriptionComplicated Lighting (ShadowCam1357 - content test2b).png |
English: The ShadowCam team developed a model that simulates real lighting conditions from detailed topographic maps. In this simulation, the primary (direct sun) and secondary illumination (reflected light) conditions for the Shackleton crater illustrate how real topographic variations add complexity to the secondary lighting. Due to a low point in the rim, the directly illuminated portion of the inner wall is temporarily discontinuous. This discontinuity results in two sources of secondary illumination, and two shadows can be seen in the opening image – e.g., one pointing towards 11 o’clock and the other towards 2 o’clock, seen at the largest boulders. |
