Inskrif: Hierdie uitgewerkte mynskagte dui die plek aan waar F.P.T. Struben op 18 September 1884 die eerste winsgewende goud op die Witwatersrand ontdek het. Hy het die gouddraende kwartsaar, wat deur hom en sy broer H.W. Struben ontgin is, Confidence Reef genoem. Die fonds het gelei tot die toestroming van prospekteerders na hierdie gebied en die uiteindelike ontdekking in 1886 van die belangrikste gouddraende gesteente van die Witwatersrand, naamlik die konglomerate van die hoofrif.

Inscription: The worked-out mine shafts indicate the site where on 18 September 1884 F.P.T. Struben discovered the first payable gold on the Witwatersrand. He called the auriferous quartz vein, mined by him and his brother H.W. Struben, Confidence Reef. The discovery led to the rush of prospectors to this area and the eventual discovery in 1886 of the premier auriferous rock of the Witwatersrand, namely the conglomerates of the main reef.
